Rod leaves behind many family members and friends who loved him dearly. There was number-one-son, Aaron; sisters Charlene (Blake), Bonnie (Gary) and his older brother, John-the Geezer. His nephews and nieces in B.C. and the Bahamas.
Rod was predeceased by his beloved wife Charlotte.
Taken by cancer far to early. Charlotte was Rod’s rock. As a team, wherever they called home, they would turn a bland landscape into a showcase of flowers and veggies. With Charlotte’s death Rod was like a fish out of water, but not for long. Charlottes’ daughter Sherry and her hubby Drew, took Rod into their large Abbotsford home and watched over him. Other members of the Widen household welcomed ‘grandpa’.
Rod was given a spacious downstairs apartment where he could sit on this patio and watch the hummingbirds feed and the sunrise. His every need was catered too. It's no understatement to say he was spoiled. Anyone entering the Widen home would feel the love and be smothered with hugs. That is the atmosphere, always.
But it was Sherry who was Rod’s guardian angel from the beginning to the end, catering to his every need. When the time comes for Sherry to go to Heaven there will be a special chair waiting for her: Reserved for the Supermom and Caregiver,
The family would like to thank the medical staff at Abbotsford Regional hospital and then Mission Memorial Hospital for the special care they gave Rod in his final days and hours.
Rod was passionate about cats. First Leo and then P.J. As a tribute to this fine man adopt a cat giving it a forever home. That would please Rod very much.
A private family only service will take place at a later date.
