Over the years Nina had many hobbies that brought her joy, like knitting. She made many buffalo sweaters for family. She also spent many days at Stepping Stone, knitting countless wash clothes for the annual Craft Fair, an event she took great joy in. Those in her group offered friendship and support she cherished.
Nina loved listening to her music, Rita McNeil, the Children’s African Choir who she saw live once that was a life highlight for her.
Nina was an avid reader, leaving behind notes of hundreds of books she hoped to read checking many off her list thanks to the help of her local librarians. One of her favourites was James Harriette, she loved reading people’s stories from around the world.
She was also a photographer, her photos always captured the moment so beautifully. Once on a winter drive to Mount Seymour she pulled over on the side of the mountain we all waited so she could capture the sunset just right. It really was a beautiful sight.
Nina volunteered countless hours at the local cat shelter playing with the cats waiting for adoption, she loved the difficult ones the most, they needed the most love she always said. Like her beloved Sam and Gypsy and later Chance.
Many weekends were spent at the flea market with our godparents Cor and Nel Pieterman, mom loved a good garage sale and loved to share the treasures she found.
Mom loved to have conversations with those she met, she was positive and supportive always with a smile. Those moments really meant a lot to her, to connect.
Look for me in Rainbows is a poem she left to all of you, with all her love.
