With profound love and gratitude, we announce the passing of our dear mother, María Asunción Peña, at the age of 75. She was an extraordinary woman whose life was a reflection of faith, devotion, and unconditional love. She was born on November 15, 1950, in San Ramón, a ranch in La Unión de San Antonio, Jalisco, Mexico, and from there planted the roots of a legacy that continues to flourish through generations.

On March 16, 1974, María united her life in marriage with José A. Peña, and together they raised a family that remained her greatest love. María was the heart and matriarch of her family. Warm, joyful, and deeply nurturing, she welcomed everyone with kindness and open arms. Her faith in God was the foundation of her life, and her family was her greatest pride and joy. As the eldest sister, María lovingly embraced the responsibility of helping raise her siblings. From a young age, she was a guide, source of support, and example to them. Her siblings looked up to her with deep respect and affection, and that bond was an essential part of who she was.

She was a woman of tireless prayer; faithfully praying the Rosary daily, the Angelus, and countless prayers for her loved ones. Her prayers were always a source of strength and comfort for her family.

She served God joyfully through many church ministries, including the choir, as a Eucharistic minister, a confirmation instructor, and as a godmother to many. She showed her faith through the way she lived and through the love she gave to others.

Motherhood meant everything to her. She loved her children and grandchildren with unwavering loyalty and devotion, even when it required sacrifice. She was protective, patient, wise, resilient, and strong. She never turned away from obstacles and always found a way to encourage those she loved. Her love was constant, faithful, and unconditional.

She had a gift for bringing life in all its forms. Her home was always filled with thriving plants and flourishing gardens. In the same way, she nurtured people. She was an exceptional cook, and her tamales were widely known and deeply cherished. Food was one of her most sincere expressions of love.

She delighted in family gatherings, music, singing, playing the guitar, dancing, and celebrating her loved ones. She was always ready to share a duet, a laugh, or host a gathering if it meant bringing joy to her family. Humble and generous, she gave endlessly of herself, without expecting anything in return.

María Asunción was preceded in death by her mother, María Guadalupe Hurtado, and her brother, Bartolo Gutiérrez.

She is survived by her beloved husband, José A. Peña; her children Araceli Peña, Jose Raúl Peña, Faviola Alba, Gustavo Peña, María Velázquez, Rocío Richmond, Cristina Ruth, and José de Jesús Peña; as well as 26 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, who carry her love forward.

She is also survived by her father, Jose Cleotilde Gutierrez; her dear brothers and sisters, Ernestina Guerra, Felipe Gutiérrez, Guillermo Gutiérrez, Juan M. Gutiérrez, Ofelia Gutiérrez, Eduardo Gutiérrez, Trinidad Pérez, Macario Gutiérrez, José C. Gutiérrez, and Gilberto Gutiérrez, with whom she shared a deep bond of love, respect, and unity.

She was the heart of her family. Her love for God and her deep devotion to family remain her enduring legacy. She will live on in the memory of all who loved her.

Con profundo amor y gratitud, anunciamos la partida de nuestra queridísima madre, María Asunción Peña, a la edad de 75. Una mujer extraordinaria cuya vida fue un reflejo constante de fe, entrega y amor incondicional. Nació el 15 de Noviembre de 1950 en San Ramón, un rancho de La Unión de San Antonio, Jalisco, México, y desde allí sembró las raíces de un legado que hoy florece en generaciones.

El 16 de marzo de 1974, María Asunción unió su vida en matrimonio con José A. Peña, y juntos formaron una familia que siempre fue su mayor amor. María fue el corazón y la matriarca de su familia. Una mujer cálida, alegre y profundamente amorosa, que recibía a todos con los brazos abiertos. Su fe en Dios fue el centro de su vida, y su familia, su más grande orgullo. Como la hermana mayor, María ayudó con amor el cuidado y formación de sus hermanos. Desde joven fue guía, apoyo y ejemplo para ellos. Sus hermanos siempre la veían con profundo respeto y cariño, y ese amor fraternal fue una parte esencial de su vida.

Fue una mujer de oración incansable; rezaba el Santo Rosario diariamente, el Ángelus y muchas otras oraciones, confiando plenamente en el Señor. Sus oraciones fueron siempre una fuente de fortaleza y consuelo para su familia.

Sirvió a Dios con alegría a través de múltiples ministerios en la Iglesia: como parte del coro, ministra extraordinaria de la Eucaristía, catequista de confirmación y madrina espiritual de muchos. Mostró su fe en la manera en que vivió y amó a los demás.

Como madre, todo lo dio. Ser mamá significaba todo para ella. Amó a sus hijos y nietos con una fidelidad inquebrantable, incluso en los momentos difíciles. Fue protectora, paciente, sabia y valiente. Nunca se rajó ante los obstáculos y siempre encontraba la manera de animar y sostener a quienes amaba. Su amor fue constante, leal y sin condiciones.

Tenía el don de nutrir vida en todas sus formas. Su casa siempre estuvo llena de plantas vivas y jardines floreciendo; tenía una mano bendita para sembrar y cuidar. Así también cuidó de las personas. Cocinaba con un sazón único, y sus tamales eran famosos y profundamente queridos. La comida era una de sus formas más sinceras de amar.

Le encantaban las reuniones familiares, la música, cantar, tocar la guitarra, bailar y celebrar a los suyos. Siempre estaba lista para un dueto, una risa o una fiesta improvisada si eso significaba ver felices a sus hijos y nietos. Fue una mujer sencilla, generosa, y de corazón grande. Daba todo sin esperar nada para sí.

María Asunción fue precedida en la muerte por su madre, María Guadalupe Hurtado y por su hermano Bartolo Gutiérrez.

Le sobreviven su querido esposo José A. Peña; sus hijos: Araceli Peña, José Raúl Peña, Faviola Alba, Gustavo Peña, María Velázquez, Rocío Richmond, Cristina Ruth y José de Jesús Peña; así como 26 nietos y 9 bisnietos, quienes son la prueba viva de su legado.

También le sobreviven su padre, Jose Cleotilde Gutierrez; sus queridos hermanos y hermanas, Ernestina Guerra, Felipe Gutiérrez, Guillermo Gutiérrez, Juan M. Gutiérrez, Ofelia Gutiérrez, Eduardo Gutiérrez, Trinidad Pérez, Macario Gutiérrez, José C. Gutiérrez, y Gilberto Gutiérrez, con quienes compartió un lazo profundo de amor, respeto y unidad.

Fue el corazón de su familia. Su amor por Dios y su profunda devoción a la familia permanecen como su legado eterno. Vivirá siempre en el recuerdo de quienes la amaron.
