Nancy Hankins Englehart, 82, of Little Rock, AR died peacefully at her home surrounded by those who loved her on September 21, 2023. She was born on January 16, 1941 in Warren, AR to the late C. E. Englehart and Kathryn Hankins Englehart. Nancy is preceded in death by her loving parents. She is survived by her lifelong best friend and companion, Debbie Turley.
Nancy was a loving daughter and friend to all.
She completed her college education at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia. She worked for 33 years and retired at age 55 from the AR Department of Human Services as a Social Worker.
After retirement, her love for helping others continued. She volunteered for the American Red Cross Disaster Services for twenty-six years. She helped thousands of people to recover from house fires, tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, and plane crashes.
She also was the president and volunteer with Arkansas Search Dog Association for 12 years with her beloved cadaver dogs, Smut and Katie Rose. Both dogs found every person that they were called to locate. Both of these dogs passed approximately four years ago but Nancy still received calls from AR Law Enforcement for assistance.
Nancy loved helping animals as well. She rescued so many! But she especially loved her Chihuahua’s. She enjoyed showing her Chihuahua’s in Arkansas Dog Shows in which many of them received the honor of “Best in Show”
When thinking of Nancy, many wonderful words come to mind. She was kind, generous, intelligent, loving, giving, and also witty with a great sense of humor.
Nancy enjoyed watching westerns on TV. And also reading westerns. She enjoyed going to the Waffle House for coffee. One thing she always loved was Hershey’s Chocolate. Everywhere she went, she would have at least one dog with her and chocolate in her pocket.
Nancy’s passing will leave a huge void in all the lives of those who knew her.
