Norman Jones, a beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on September 29, 2025 at 11:11 PM, which signified to his husband he was surrounded by angels. He was born on June 25, 1946, in Sparkman, Arkansas, to Obie and Ethel Shambley Jones, who preceded him in death.
Norman is survived by his husband, Mark Bostian; his sister, Belva Jones Burrough; and his brother, McVay Jones. He was a proud uncle to his nephews and nieces: Brian Burrough, Dana (Dennis) Tuggle, Cheryl Burrough, Steven Burrough, Chris (Kim) Jones, and Kevin Jones. He will also be remembered fondly by his many great-nieces and nephews.
Norman’s life was marked by trailblazing achievements, resilience, and generosity. In 1972 he made history when he traveled to Nashville, as the first Miss Gay Arkansas, to compete and ultimately become, the first-ever Miss Gay America. This earned him national recognition as an entertainer and pioneer in the art of female impersonation. After becoming the owner of the pageant in 1975 he continued to build and expand it across the nation, launching the successful career of many entertainers, until selling in 2005. Beyond the stage, he became a successful entrepreneur, owning and operating Discovery Nightclub since 1979 and later Triniti Nightclub (formerly Backstreet). Both venues remain cornerstones of Arkansas nightlife and LGBTQ+ culture to this day.
A proud Navy veteran, Norman carried his spirit of service into civilian life. He was instrumental in founding and operating a nonprofit organization that provided financial assistance to thousands of people living with AIDS, offering hope and relief to many during the height of the epidemic.
Norman will be remembered not only for his historic contributions to the entertainment community and his success as a businessman, but also for his kindness, generosity, and dedication to helping others. His legacy will live on through the lives he touched, the stages he graced, and the communities he helped build.
In lieu of flowers you can donate to any animal shelter of your choice in memory of Norman.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Pinecrest Funeral Home with a visitation starting at 10:30 AM.
