Paul Edward Spears, 82, completed his life’s mission and did so with strength, honor, kindness, and dignity to his very last breath. After his own father’s death, he left high school and joined the United States Marine Corps in order to provide for his mother and two sisters. In 1962, he married Juanita Sue Jones and in 1968 they had a daughter, Paula Sue. During his military career, he endured four tours of Vietnam. When he retired from the Marines, he became a police officer and continued to serve and protect on the community level. From the police force, he turned to security and was a guard for many years at Arkansas Nuclear One and then Arkansas Craft with Green Bay Packaging. To provide for and protect was always his focus in life whether it was as a citizen and soldier, a son and brother, or a husband and father and eventually grandfather. Even as cancer ravaged his body and mind, everything he said or did was to provide for and protect those he loved … those who loved him wholeheartedly in return and now miss his steady and calming presence. Paul was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters as well as his wife of 47 years. He is survived by his daughter, Paula, and two grandsons who were the absolute joy and light of his life, Joel Paul and Sean Allen Freeze, all who benefited greatly from his strong examples of honesty, honor, respect, perseverance, and most of all love. Visitation will be held at Griffin Leggett Forest Hills Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Graveside service will be held at Pinecrest Memorial Park on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at 2:00pm with Bro. Michael Battenfield officiating.
