I am so sad to hear of Wahab's death... I remember him with love as one of my "brothers" through the Foreign Student Program at WVU.  He visited our home regularly when he was a WVU student in the 1960's, and as a little girl, I believed he was my brother.  I remember nights having dinner then playing ping-pong in our basement.  A smart, gracious, courageous, loving man...  How glad I am to call him family!

I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Khair originally in 2007 in connection with the Preliminary Non-Fuel Mineral Resource Assessment of Afghanistan USGS Report. He dedicated his life as I knew him to passionately help others and in developing the Afghan coal sector. I am honored to have had the pleasure of knowing and collaborating such an outstanding scholar and human being.

Wahab and I traveled twice to Afghanistan together; the first time in 2004, and again in 2006. We sampled some of the coal mines he worked in thirty years earlier, and a cousin served us dinner in a house he once occupied with his wife Judy in Pol-i Khomri. He wanted desperately to help the people of Afghanistan and was willing to take risks to do so. Neither of us had given up on that idea; I will really miss his presence as a colleague and friend. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

I am so honored to have had such a wonderful man as my uncle. He was such a positive force in my life and I am deeply saddened by this loss. I love him and miss him.

Dr. Khair changed my life as a fresh graduate student at WVU. He provided me opportunities and guidance that allowed me to develop and maintain a 30+ year career as an university Professor. He will always have a place in my soul and am extremely lucky to have met him when I did!!!
