Adina (Dina) Barbara Nyce entered the world with her twin brother, Alex, on November 14, 1963, at the Yokosuka Naval Hospital, Japan. Her father, Captain William E. Nyce (USN), was deployed to the Pacific Command; and her mother, Barbara Homenny Nyce, bravely delivered the prematurely born infants while her husband was serving his country at sea. From the moment our beloved Dina was born, the world was ignited and gifted with an energetic, fighting young infant who would never be daunted throughout her life by life’s challenges and would bring joy to all she encountered. She was the delight and the apple of her mother and father’s eyes. She was adored by her sister and brothers. As an infant and throughout her earthly journey, Dina exhibited strength, courage and fortitude despite all obstacles. Her devotion and love of family lifted us all. What an amazing woman, daughter, sister, godmother, adoring aunt, and friend to so, so many who were blessed to call her family and “friend.” To Dina, one became “family” once that friendship was born. The joy, kindness and generosity of heart she exuded through her beautiful smile and acts of giving and simple acts of joy, brightened the world around her. And, we are forever grateful for our dearest one, whom her family called “Our Sunshine!”
Her career spanned over 30 years of service supporting and nurturing her community of co-workers at Avison Young (AY), and the Ezra Company in Washington, D.C. She always brought her sense of humor, hard work, and dedication to her job to levels that would amaze. And, as she is well known, she was legendary for her baking skills and creativity in helping build community at her workplace. She received so much delight watching her colleagues smile as they enjoyed her delicious cakes!
Outside of work and taking care of her loved ones over the years, Dina enjoyed traveling the world. Highlights include her trips to France; Italy; Israel; the Middle East; Tunisia; Singapore; Christmas markets in western Europe; and her “happy place,” Rockport, Massachusetts. Dina loved to cook, bake, paint, draw, and create beauty through her talents and joy to those around her. She was particularly gifted with using watercolors to capture her favorite birds and landscapes; and of course, her baking prowess - cakes, cakes and more cakes.
Dina is survived by her brother Christopher W. Nyce (Carol), sister Rebecca Dobbins (Tom), brother Alex Nyce, and nieces and nephews, Father Will Nyce, Virginia Nyce, Madeline Mambelli (Jon), Andrew Nyce (Liz), Ben Nyce (Marilyn), Sam Nyce, Joe Dobbins (Laurel), and grand niece and nephews in Denver, CO and Hoboken, NJ.
Her family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff and doctors serving the Fresenius Kidney Care Center, Ft. Belvoir, Virginia, and the caring nurses and doctors at Capital Caring Hospice, Sibley Memorial Hospital, Washington, D.C. We also wish to thank her friends and colleagues at AY for their generosity of spirit and giving. Your loving care provided great comfort to Dina’s family. We thank you.
A Funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at 10:30am at the Basilica of Saint Mary in Old Town Alexandria.
