Born on July 16, 1939, in Clairton, Pennsylvania, Ann was the beloved daughter of Marko Oluvic and Eva Dumancic Oluvic. She graduated from Clairton High School and went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree from California State Teachers College in Pennsylvania. A passionate advocate for education, Ann moved to Alexandria, Virginia, where she dedicated ten years to teaching, leaving a lasting impact on her students and the community.
Following her teaching career, Ann embraced motherhood with grace and love. She married the late Mr. Dikran Kavaljian Jr., a distinguished attorney of Armenian, English and Irish heritage. Together, they built a family and a thriving business, founded on hard work, mutual respect, and unwavering commitment. After her husband’s passing, Ann continued to carry their shared legacy with remarkable dedication, professionalism, and dignity.
Ann's entrepreneurial spirit led her to open an Italian shoe store in Old Town Alexandria, where she beautifully merged her love of fashion with her business acumen. Later, she became a highly respected real estate agent in Old Town for over 30 years, helping countless families find their dream homes. Her knowledge, integrity, and genuine care made her a trusted and admired figure in the community.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Ann was deeply involved in her community and faith. As an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, she contributed through volunteering, organizing events, and gathering donations for those in need. Her faith was a guiding force in her life and an inspiration to all who knew her.
Ann had a unique gift for hosting. Her gatherings brought people together with warmth, laughter, and unforgettable meals. She created not just memories, but lasting bonds among those lucky enough to know her.
Ann O. Kavaljian was a woman of honesty, charm, and relentless dedication — a pillar of strength for her family, and a beloved member of the Alexandria community. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were touched by her kindness and grace.
She is survived by her sons, Dikran Kavaljian of Alexandria, VA, and stepson Peter Kavaljian of Clifton, VA; daughters-in-law Polina Kavaljian, Alison Kavaljian, and Lisa Kavaljian; and her cherished grandchildren, Max, Zachary, and Katerina Kavaljian; Brother Mark Oluvic and Sisters in law Sherri Oluvic and Carmi Oluvic.
Ann’s life was a testament to love, hard work, and devotion. She will be missed beyond measure, but her spirit will forever guide those she leaves behind.
"We know she will watch over us from above. She will live forever in our hearts."
