Anthony D. Rugari

Anthony Dante RUGARI, age 56, of Alexandria, Virginia passed away on Friday May 17, 2019. Born May 18, 1962 in New Hartford, New York, Tony's family moved to Alexandria, Virginia in 1966 where Tony attended St. Mary's school for kindergarten. He then attended Fairfax County schools, graduating from Fort Hunt High School in 1980. Growing up he was very active in youth league sports playing baseball, basketball and football. Tony went on to earn his B.S. in physics from Virginia Tech in 1984. After working for several years in his family's sport shop, Tony returned to school in order to teach physics. He earned his teaching certificate from George Mason and taught at Edison High School for 23 years. Teaching became Tony's passion and he was devoted to his career and his students. Tony is survived by his mother, Janet; his brother Steve and his sister-in-law Angie; his nephews and niece, Joey, Tom, Catherine and Sam; his sister Janice and his brother-in-law Brian; and his sister Linda. He also leaves behind his Aunt Shirley of Oneida NY; his Uncle Ron and Aunt Cheryl of Show Low, AZ; his Aunt Sophie and Uncle Tom of Brookfield, CT; his Uncle John and Aunt Marie; his Uncle Joe and Aunt Mary; his Uncle Louis and Aunt Camille all of Utica, NY; his Uncle Frank and Aunt Susan of Hico, TX and numerous cousins. A celebration of Tony's life will be held at Edison High School Auditorium on June 8, 2019 from 2-4 PM.
