Barbara Mancini Dirmeyer was born November 14, 1954 to Ralph and Amelia Mancini in Brooklyn, NY. Along with her siblings, she grew up in Brooklyn and later moved to Massapequa, on the south shore of Long Island.
Many childhood and adolescent days were spent at Jones Beach. Those years created a true lifetime love of the ocean. Barbara
would frequent Jones Beach as much as possible throughout her life. The water was always a soothing and peaceful place for her.
It was the true love of family time and her Italian heritage that stayed with her that shaped who she was and what she did with her life. Being a highly creative person, she combined her skills with her love and passion for cooking to go on to have a successful community gathering place that was well known on “The Avenue”.
Alongside her beloved husband, Bob, they created “Mancini’s Bakery & Cafe”. There were a few steppingstones before they landed on Mt. Vernon Avenue and be known to have the best breakfast in Del Ray. Barbara was well known not only for her culinary expertise but also known for her beautifully crafted desserts and cakes. Her talents were endless in the kitchen, and she loved sharing her creations.
Anyone who knew Barbara knew she was an avid lover of
Dachshunds. She graciously rescued older ones alongside raising
her younger pups. In all, there were six dogs throughout the years
that were so loved by her; Mr. Bop, Colonel, Millie Pearl, Maggie,
Edith and Truffles.
Barbara will be so missed by her family members and close friends.
She had a circle of support that was there in good times and bad.
Everyone would agree that their life is now less colorful and more
quiet with the loss of Barabara. She will be so missed by all.
