Betty Cook LaCava

LACAVA, Betty C., passed into God's arms on August 11, 2012. She was born to Ralph and Dora Bell Cook on March 16, 1928 in Charlotte, N.C. Betty moved many times during her youth, and in her young adult years was a Telex operator, providing communications to offshore oil rigs in Lafayette, La. On June 28, 1963, Betty married Dr. James LaCava and they moved to their home on Allwood Court in Alexandria, Va., where they lived for 40 years while raising their family. During that time Betty worked as Jim's office manager. Jim and Betty were founding members of Good Shepherd parish and were very active in the church. In 2003, upon Jim's retirement, they moved to Glen Allen, Va. Betty was an avid reader who loved the beach and traveling. She enjoyed the sweetest things in life, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her six children Mike (Cathy), George "Al" (Suzanne), Theresa (Danny), Paul (Patty), Mary (Mike) and Jody (Paul); and 12 grandchildren. Friends may call on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Demaine Funeral Home 520 South Washington St., Alexandria, Va. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8710 Mt. Vernon Hwy., Alexandria, Va. 22309. The family requests that donations be made in Betty's memory to Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
