A native and lifelong resident of Alexandria, Virginia, Charlie attended Hammond High School, where he participated on the football and track teams. Later, he enrolled at East Carolina University.
Charlie worked for Pam Am Airlines for 23 years and enjoyed traveling the world. After leaving the airlines industry, he returned to college to complete his degree in communications design. He and his wife launched a graphic design business, which they operated for more than 12 years.
As an adult, Charlie was diagnosed with ADHD. He started and facilitated a support group to help others navigating similar challenges. This led Charlie to write and publish his memoir titled My Secret ADHD Life: How I found my way through undiagnosed ADHD. With a lifelong love of cars, Charlie was working on a second book, at the time of his passing, about his adventures owning and repairing foreign cars.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Debra Mulholland Stancil; cousins Tammy West, Julia Harold, and Betty Wallace; sister-in-law Linda Bigouette; nieces and nephews, Jennifer and Duane Jacobs, Andrea and Ricky Defino; and grand-nieces and nephews, Peter Magee, Lauren Jacobs, and Violet Defino. He was preceded in death by his parents, James E. Stancil and Margaret Norton Stancil; brother James “Ronnie” Stancil; and grand-nephew Louis DeFino.
