Chizuko was born on April 26, 1936 in Mokpo, South Korea - at which time it was occupied by Japan. At the end of WWII, the Aburano family fled to mainland Japan and settled in Gifu Prefecture. Chizuko attended school and later worked in an office setting where she met her beloved husband, Edward M Thorne, Jr. Edward and Chizuko were married in Japan in May of 1962. She spent much of her career working at Nancy Fleming in Old Town Alexandria, retiring after 22 years of service. Chizuko taught herself to knit and created many sweaters for her children and grandchildren. She became a US citizen in 1984 and was baptized into the Catholic church. Chizuko was athletic - she enjoyed swimming and running, participating in several 5K races. She was an amazing cook and friends and family especially enjoyed her eggrolls and gyoza dumplings. Chizuko cherished her family above all else and her love and generosity was deeply felt.
