Just learned of Don's passing - so sad. What a friend and colleague, principally through Mathcounts, a great middle school math competition and that brings to light every year the best and brightest. I will miss you, Don.

I have just learned the death of COL Don Swygert, P.E. in May 2020. I knew Don quite well and a high respect for Don as a friend and a Professional Engineer. We both attended many meetings of the National Society of Professional Engineers. I believe that we also met at the University of Virginia Alumni activities when I taught there. I kind of remember that both of our late wife were active in the Ladies Auxiliary? . I am very sad and I shall miss Don, a wonderful person, an excellent civil engineer and forever a friend.

I recently became award of Don's passing by way of a donation in his name from Judy Powell. Judy and Ray Powell were good friends with Don, and all three were my good friends over many years through our relationship with the Mathcounts program. I met Susan and Steve Swygert who would join Don to volunteer, and spoke to Donnie in March of 2020 when Don was hospitalized. What a wonderful photo tribute to Don's life! I was able to hear memories shared by the family of Betty, who passed away in 2014. The love of country, love of family and love and respect to others enriches my life in having known Don and seeing this wonderful tribute.

I was saddened to read in the Feb. 2021 "Military Officer" of your Dad's passing. Your "Tribute Video" was beautifully presented - a multitude of wonderful memories for the family which was so dear to Betty and Don. I last saw Don at Ray's funeral in June 2019 in Woodstock, VA, Ray held great respect for your dad. They enjoyed each others company and had much in common as comrades in the Army Corp of Engineers, Vietnam veterans, professional engineers, MathCounts committeemen and friends. I will always treasure the gentlemanly twinkle in his eye and "peck on the cheek". Rest in peace with your dear Betty.

I only came to know Colonel Swygert over the past couple of years. We shared a love of geneaology and the history of our Swygert family and the Army (retired Colonel and retired civilian pharmacist). We enjoyed nice long chats on the phone and I miss those terribly. He provided extensive advice for our trip to Germany last fall. Westpoint was an important part of his life and we talked about my desire for a visit someday. You will be missed, cousin, Sir .

The last time I saw Don was in February of this year. He waved goodbye to me from the Thayer Hotel at West Point after we shared a lovely dinner.
The image of Don in a place he loved so much is a nice way to remember him.
Rest In Peace, my dear friend.

Colonel Swygert will be missed by all who have ever met him. I have been fortunate to have met him even late in life, and I enjoyed our conversations at the 26th Engineer reunions. Rest in Peace my friend.
