ALEXANDRIA - On June 21, 2013, the world lost a very special lady. Dorothy was the wife of the late Col. (USAF, Ret.) Dexter M. Green and subsequently, the late Capt. (USN, Ret.) George S. "Buck" James. In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by her parents, Edgar and Edythe Brockelmann of Pasadena, CA., stepmother Dorothye Brockelmann, and stepson George S. "Bucky" James. She is survived by a daughter, Penelope (Penny) Green Hissem (Alan) of Hampton, VA., a son, Dexter Brock Green (Julia) of Charlottesville, VA., a stepdaughter, Mary Louise (Lou) Millson of Jacksonville, FLA., grandchildren, E. Christopher Johnson (Nancy), Seth Munson Green (Sarah), Noah Hammond Green, one great grandchild, Noelle Johnson, a step niece, a step nephew, three step grandchildren, and ten step great grandchildren. Dorothy was a resident of Alexandria, VA. since 1966. She was born in Sacramento, CA. in 1921, grew up in southern California, and graduated from the University of Texas with an emphasis in commercial art. Bridge, golf, painting, her Alpha Phi sorority, and exploring the world with her family were just a few of the passions that filled her life with joy. Her boundless energy, thirst for knowledge, and curiosity amazed her friends and family. She loved life and squeezed every drop out of it. Dorothy's sharp wit and sense of humor, grace, elegance, generosity, and beautiful smile will be missed and remembered by her civilian and military friends, and especially by her family. Services will be held at Fort Belvoir Chapel at 11:30, July 2, and a reception celebrating Dorothy's life will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Army-Navy Country Club. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Demaine Funeral Home.
