Passed on February 29, 2012 in his 90th year. Devoted husband of Evelyn Carter; beloved Dad to Diana Mancini, Patricia Zarwel, Nancy Brink and Douglas Carter, Jr. Also, survived by seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He proudly served in three wars – World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam. A long-time Alexandria resident, the area served as his home base during his military career. Upon retirement in 1971, he became a Director in the College of General Studies at GW University for ten years. He was active in his community, especially the Hollin Hall Senior Center until he succumbed to Alzheimer’s. Viewing will be held March 5, 2012 at 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., followed by a memorial service and reception at Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S. Washington St., Alexandria, VA 22314.
