My Dear "Brazilian Sister" Edmea. We first met in 1958 when she had just arrived as an exchange student at Connecticut College. Our family was to be her host family away from campus. During that foreign student weekend we double dated at a dance at the Coast Guard Academy. It was love at first sight and she and Jack married in the Coast Guard Academy Chapel on June 11th, 1960. Following a honeymoon in Rio De Janeiro where Jack got to finally meet his in-laws they settled in Maine where Jack was stationed on a Coast Guard Cutter.
Edmea was the most thoughtful person I have ever met. For example, when she was living in CA and could not attend my wedding, she sent me a present for every room in my house.
For many years Edmea was a Portuguese Interpreter for the US State Department. On occasions when she traveled leading State Department Tours, near where I lived, she would invite me to join her for a meal with her guests. We always picked up as if we had seen each other the day before.
I will never forget her as she also was my only child's godmother.
Edmea, you led an extraordinary life and I am honored to be a part of you. RIP my dear friend.
