Edward Mitchell Winiarski was born on January 18, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan. The youngest of four children to Michael and Anna Winiarski. Much to the relief and chagrin of many of the nuns, he graduated from St. Stanislaus High School in 1953. His adventures moved from avoiding the nuns to out running Detroit's finest as his youthful exploits continued. During that time he worked at various jobs including Dodge Main, a shoe shop and clothing store - where he gained an appreciation for a good suit. Eventually, Ed lucked into a job at a bank where he finally settled on a career as a real estate appraiser. He continued to work hard and built his career to become the Head Appraiser for Multi-Family Housing for the Department of Housing and Urban Development in Washington, DC.
Edward's very best luck occurred when he met Josephine at a dance in 1956. He proposed a little more than a year later. His offer of, "You know, two can live as cheaply as one." was too charming for Jo to refuse. Their wedding followed in 1959. Soon thereafter their first baby arrived and was followed by two more. A move to Virginia happened. Now as a responsible man with a family, Ed turn his free time and talents toward what is best described as "Ed's home repair and car shop". With a family work force in place, home repairs and improvements were woven into the fabric of his work, growing kids, and collecting and repairing a fleet of cars that swelled beyond the number of family members that could drive.
Eventually, Edward retired and was able to spend more quality time with his wife and grandchildren. Through the years, he continued to do what he loved, working with his hands on home projects, helping out family and friends, traveling a little, volunteering with the Knights of Columbus and ushering for his church.
Edward passed away at home on January 5, 2015. He is survived by his wife Josephine, son Michael and wife Romaine, daughter Michelle and husband John, daughter Christine and husband Jim and seven grandchildren. The husband, father, grandfather and friend who could always be relied on will be missed so very much.
Rest in the loving embrace of our Lord forever more Dad.
