
Edwin Calver Granley of Alexandria, VA, 94, died peacefully on September 22, 2015 at Greenspring Retirement Village, where he was a resident. He was born on June 3, 1921 in Bainville, Montana to Ole and Sarah Lucken Granley.
“Ed” is survived by his daughter, Sara Granley Becker and husband Steve of McLean, VA, three grandchildren; John Sidbury Becker of Chicago, IL, Sarah Grace Becker and Evan Granley Becker, both of McLean, VA; 3 nieces, Arlene Sellars of Kiefer, Indiana, Joyce Schmidt of Wanatchee, Washington, Marion Harrelson and nephew Dave Granley, both of Bainville, Montana.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Norma Sanders Granley, his brothers, Albert Granley and Raymond Granley and a nephew Lloyd Granley.
Ed attended Havre College in Havre, Montana until 1942 then served as an Aircraft Engineering Technician for the US Army during WWII. He graduated from Montana State University with a B.S in Civil Engineering and worked for the Federal Highway Administration from 1949 until his retirement in 1981.
Ed was a member of Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church in Alexandria, VA for over 30 years. He was a member of the “Road Gang”, a group of fellow highway engineers, an active alumnus of Montana State University, a skier, a golfer and an enthusiastic polka dancer.
As a young man in the 1950’s, Ed was President of the Washington Ski Club when club members had to groom the slopes. He was a regular at Montana State Society events around DC.
He will be remembered for his happy personality and his kindness.

Ed was always happy to help those in need, so in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to a favorite charity.
