

Sergeant First Class Elmore Bernard Goodwin, of Chesapeake, Virginia, died a hero fighting during the Korean War on November 27, 1950 at 25 years of age. After a wait of 68 years, Sergeant Goodwin’s remains have been obtained from Korea and genetically identified. His family members, although now scattered, trace their family origins to the area of Norfolk, Virginia. His funeral will take place in the Chapel of Arlington National Cemetery with honors on July 9, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. The viewing will be 6:00 p.m. on June 8th (the previous day) at Demaine Funeral Home, located at 520 South Washington Street in Alexandria, VA. During the viewing, the Army will present the family a Purple Heart and other certificates honoring SFC Goodwin’s patriotic service. The family rejoices at his homecoming. The visitation and the funeral services will be open to the public.
Unfortunately, Maggie Vann Goodwin and William “Willie” Goodwin, the parents of SFC Elmore B. Goodwin, died heart-broken while awaiting the return of their youngest son. All nine of his siblings have also passed. His surviving nieces and nephews are MD State Senator Dr. Delores G. Kelley, Ms. Barbara G. Cuffie, and Dr. Stefan Goodwin of Maryland; Mrs. Rosemarie Madu and Mr. Stanley Wilson of Virginia; Mr. Eugene Bernard Coleman, Dr. Norma Goodwin, and Mrs. Brenda Francis of New York; Mrs. Rita Grant of New Jersey; Mr. William Tyrone Shepard of Ohio; Mrs. Linda Williams and Mr. Michael Shepard of Georgia.
