

With a heavy heart and profound love the passing of Frank Barone, 85,. is announced on June 4, 2026, ending a life of love and dedication to his wife, Carolyn and service to the military defense of his country.
Born in NYC and raised in St Petersburg, FL, he joined the Navy in San Diego and served on the USS Spinax during the Viet Nam war both underseas and on land. He attended the University of California receiving an engineering degree. He was employed by various government contractors which included Harris, IBM, Ball Aerospace and BAE Systems working on such programs as Granite Sentry and the space shuttle Columbia. His career culmination came with the management of the Test Range Management System in the Office of the Secretary of Defense in 2013.
He was a lifelong learner and forward thinker before his time He and partner Steve Serling established Sunwater Technologies in FL and Sunwater AquaFarms in CA in the 1980’s. The environmental waste water was converted into water safe for agriculture, aquaculture and industrial reuse. The solar farms produced a closed cycle, environmentally controlled system for producing clean, healthy seafood products.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Alice, his brother Raymond and sister Rita. He is survived by wife, Carolyn and son Duane and grandchildren Kyle and Morgan and sisters Alice and Laurie and several nieces and nephews. Many cherished family members and friends will remember his sharp wit, laughter, winning smile and wisdom which he shared with those around him. He especially loved the younger generations and praised their knowledge and multiple opportunities available for their success in life. He was an avid skier, loved sailboat competition and fishing. Though only married a brief 16 years, he never stopped showing his unfailing love and devotion to and for Carolyn.
Celebration of his life will be held at Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S.Washington St., Alexandria, VA from 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday , June 17. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at 830 23rd St., Arlington, VA.
Internment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
