

LTG. Frank Ambler Camm, U.S. Army (Ret.), passed away peacefully on January 17, 2012, at The Fairfax. Ft. Belvoir, VA, with his beloved wife Arlene of 64 years at his side. A January 1943 graduate of West Point, he served as a combat engineer in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. His varied career also gave him opportunities to manufacture nuclear weapons and develop nuclear strategy, conduct system analysis and lead heavy construction, and lead major organizations in the Army, Atomic Energy Commission, Intelligence Community, and Federal Emergency Management Agency. Following retirement, he became pro bono president of the Army Retirement Residence Foundation and built the Fairfax Military Retirement Community at Fort Belvoir, VA, where he died. He also built Herbert Hall and the Constitution Corner at West Point, which honored him as a Distinguished Graduate in 2005.
General Camm is survived by his wife; a son, Dr. Frank A. Camm, Jr. (wife, Nancy) of Alexandria, VA; a son-in-law, Dr. Roger Melen of Los Altos Hills, CA; four grandchildren, Dr. Samuel Williams, San Mateo, CA, (wife, Cara), CPT Nicholas Williams, Ft. Bragg, NC, Michelle Melen, Los Altos Hills, CA, John Melen, Winston-Salem, NC; and two great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Katherine Williams. He was predeceased by his daughter, Arlene Camm Melen.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at The Old Chapel, Ft. Myer, VA, followed by interment at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Army Retirement Residence Foundation-Potomac or to the West Point Fund.
