Died Friday, March 11 at Moses Cone Hospital. His funeral will be at 10 a.m., Saturday at the Demaine Funeral Home, Alexandria, VA, and burial will follow at Mount Comfort Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Starkey was a native of Virginia, a retired professional guitarist with the George Lee and the Desperados' Band; he then retired from the Brotherhood of Electric Workers Local 26. He also was a Korean Conflict veteran in the US Navy and his greatest joys involved his family and golf.
George is survived by his wife Margy Lee Starkey; son, John Starkey (Kelly); daughters, Carol Walter (Mike), Tracey McCall (Jeff), Julie Grecco (John); sisters, Jessica June Edward, Anna Lee Wright, Sue Francis Minor; 10 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
