IN THE CARE OF

Demaine Funeral Home

Grant Andrew Mesner, age 4 months, of Alexandria, Virginia passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on Friday, August 12, 2022. Born March 14, 2022, in Falls Church, Virginia, he was the beloved son of Krysten Mesner and the brother of Alexander Alvarenga Mesner. L. Frank Baum, the creator of the “Wizard of Oz” once wrote, “In all this world there is nothing so beautiful as a happy child." That truly was Grant, a jubilant baby boy who had a wonderfully profound impact on so many lives. He was quick to share his charming smile and gleeful laugh with everyone he met. Grant was elated with the simple joys of life and possessed an unmatched vivacity. Though his time with us was painfully short, he provided us with a lifetime of love and joy. He was a miraculous gift that will forever be treasured by his mother, brother, and those that were fortunate to know and love him. He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents; Jack H. Mesner, Patsy Mesner, Vilma Knudsen Matus, and Jose Luis Matus. In addition to his mother and brother, Grant is survived by his grandparents, Steven and Vilma "Luvy" Mesner; his uncles, Octavio Mesner, Antoine Brantley, Jack S. Mesner (Becky); his cousins, Gregory Mesner and Owen Mesner; other relatives, Shelby and Keith Wivell, Alex's older brother, Max Alvarenga, and his mother, Stephanie Epes. He is also survived by countless relatives, friends, and loved ones. A visitation for Grant will be held Friday, August 19, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S. Washington St., Alexandria, VA 22314, followed by a funeral service from 3:00 PM to 4:00PM. Brother Michael Meza OFM Cap, a family friend, will be officiating the service. Private interment will be at Greenway Cemetery in Berkeley Springs, WV at the convenience of the family where Grant will be laid to rest alongside his loving great-grandparents, Jack and Patsy Mesner. In honor of Grant's memory, please consider donating to the Robert’s Program at Boston Children’s Hospital which, in collaboration with medical experts at Harvard Medical School, studies sudden unexpected death in infancy and childhood. Grant is a participant in this program and his participation in this program will continue to give his life purpose and contribute to this important research. Checks should be made out to ‘Boston Children’s Hospital.’ Please include “in memory of Grant Mesner to benefit Robert’s Program” in the memo line. All checks should be mailed to Boston Children’s Hospital Trust, 401 Park Drive Suite 602, Boston, MA 02215-5301.
