A lifelong Virginian, he was raised in Norfolk and graduated from Maury High School. JR graduated with Honors in 1968 from VA Technical and Research Institute in Roanoke. He was employed in the import/export business, where he enjoyed international travel. He was passionate about animals. JR and his husband, Richard Carlucci provided a home to many pet dogs over the years.
JR will be missed and survived by his husband of 33 years, Richard and their 3 dogs: Baxter, Chloe and Callie; cousins, Candy Bouchard and Denise Lowe, both of Virginia Beach; and numerous friends he attracted over his lifetime.
He was predeceased by his parents, Catherine Rhodes and James T. Fentress of Norfolk.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S. Washington St, Alexandria Virginia.
