

Of Alexandria, VA died on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at INOVA Mt. Vernon Hospital, Alexandria, VA. Lee was born March 12, 1924 in Berkeley, CA and raised in Oakland, CA. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Florence Russell Cason; a son, Howard Cason; and grandson, David Sprague. Lee is survived by his children, Barbara Cason of Alexandria, VA, Donna Sprague of Fredericksburg, VA and Donald Cason of Alexandria, VA; two grandchildren; six great grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a younger brother, William Cason of Osprey, FL; many nieces and nephews. Lee retired from the U.S. Army after serving 22 years on active duty in various countries around the world. During World War II, as a 20 year old Private First Class in the 4th Infantry Division, Lee landed on Utah Beach in Normandy, France as part of the D-Day invasion. He also fought in the Battle of the Bulge; and at the conclusion of the war, helped liberate a Nazi concentration camp. Lee was awarded two Purple Hearts for injuries he sustained in World War II. Relatives will receive friends at the Demaine Funeral Home, Alexandria, VA on Thursday, June 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. Private graveside services will be held at Arlington Cemetery at a later date.
