IN THE CARE OF
Demaine Funeral Home
The family and friends of Leonard Francis “Dutch” Anderson mourn the passing of this teacher, mentor, community leader, and beloved family member. Dutch passed peacefully on June 15, 2021, at Sunrise Senior Living of Alexandria after a brief illness. He was born on November 15, 1937, in New York the only child of Arnold Anderson and Mary Elizabeth Rosenberger Anderson. After serving with distinction in the U.S. Army with postings in Germany and France, Dutch completed a BA in Social Science at Catholic University in Washington, DC in 1965. He became a highly successful and highly popular history professor at the Surrattsville High School in Clinton, Maryland, and completed a Masters Degree while teaching. His legendary U.S. history course and innumerable high school history tours to Europe and elsewhere led his hundreds of students to a heightened devotion to our country’s past and fundamental civic institutions. He retired to Alexandria and became a very active member of the Basilica of St. Mary.
Dutch Anderson is survived by his cousin, Frank Rosenberger of Ambridge, Pennsylvania and numerous others as well as a host of close friends.
