Born on September 4, 1942, in Benton, Tennessee, to Earl Thomas and Grace Willson Thomas, Linda grew up in Benton and attended grade school and high school there.
She earned her B.S. in Education from the University of Tennessee and began her career teaching senior English and French in Huntsville, Alabama, where she inspired students for several years. In Huntsville, she met and married Thomas M. Perdue on July 24, 1965, beginning a devoted partnership of more than six decades.
Linda later served as the acquisitions librarian at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, bringing her love of learning and organization to the growing institution.
She was a deeply loving mother to her two children, Kristin Elaine Perdue and Michael Craft Perdue. She supported them in every endeavor —always present, always encouraging.
She and her husband shared a love of travel, enjoying cruises and river cruises with friends throughout the United States and Europe, as well as journeys to Australia and New Zealand. At home, Linda was a gifted and adventurous cook, always exploring new dishes and flavors.
Linda’s life was defined by devotion — to her family, her friends, her work, and her granddaughter. Her warmth, engagement, and joy enriched every life she touched.
She is survived by her husband, Tom , her daughter Kris Perdue of Rixeyville Virginia, her son Michael Perdue and his wife Kristen Lynn Perdue of Elberta, Alabama, her sisters Karen Thomas Green of Benton Tennessee and Adeline Thomas Collins of Dunedin Florida, and a granddaughter, Chandler Perdue of Auburn Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Alzheimer’s Association..
