Marilyn was born on May 19, 1930, in Springview, Nebraska to George and Gladys Kirsch.
She was the youngest of 5 siblings. Her oldest sibling was Lucielle (1917) followed by George (1919) Eugene (1927) and Ralph (1928). Brother George passed away 2 years before Marilyn was born. She grew up in Springview, Nebraska where her father was a farmer and the superintendent of the school district, and her mother was a teacher. Following her father’s tragic death in a farming accident, Marilyn moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming with her mother and brothers to live near her older sister Lucielle and her family. Marilyn completed high school in Cheyenne and earned an associate degree in business administration at the University of Wyoming.
After completing her degree, Marilyn worked in Burke, South Dakota for a time before moving to Atlantic City, New Jersey with some friends. From Atlantic City, Marilyn was recruited to come to Washington, DC to work in the office of South Dakota Congressman E.Y. Berry. There she met Bob Berry, E. Y.s son and after dating for a few years Bob and Marilyn married on November 24,1962, in Rapid City, South Dakota. In 1964 they had daughter Nancy, followed by son Brian in 1966.
Marilyn took time off work to raise Nancy and Brian, then in late 1978 she returned to work at Publisher Services (PSI) and subsequently affiliated company Association Book Services (ABS). She worked for a combined total of about 25 years for PSI and ABS and made life-long friends through her work there. After she and Bob retired, they spent many wonderful years traveling. Once the grandchildren arrived, Bob and Marilyn spent lots of time with them as well. Marilyn was always ready to help the grandkids with their homework. They affectionately nicknamed her “Grammar” because her proofreading skills were second to none.
Marilyn was a member of the philanthropic group PEO for many years and made many friends through PEO. She and Bob were members of Aldersgate United Methodist Church having joined the membership in 1966.
Marilyn is survived by her son Brian Berry (Melody) and daughter Nancy Moore (Dave) and grandchildren Valerie (Clint), Alex (Jane), Greer, Case, Victoria and Livy, and 5 great-grand children and many nieces and nephews and their children.
Services for Marilyn will be held on March 28, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Aldersgate. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent in Marilyn’s name to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1301 Collingwood Road, Alexandria, Virginia 22308.
