At the age of 30, Beverly decided she wanted an adventure and began her career with the United States State Department, where she was assigned to the West African Bureau. During this time, she spent a period living in Tunisia, where she met the love of her life, Allan Alexander. They were married on October 6, 1962, and shared 45 wonderful years together. Their daughter, Lisa, was born in 1963.
Beverly retired from the State Department in 1986. She and Allan spent their retirement years traveling, spending time with friends, and joyfully watching their family grow with the arrival of their three grandchildren.
After Allan’s passing in 2008, Beverly began traveling back to Phoenix, Arizona, a place she loved, and engaged with old friends. She continued to do so well into her 80s.
Beverly was a devoted grandmother who treasured time with her grandchildren and later great-grandchildren. She loved to read and spent countless hours reading to them when they were little. Although she always held on to the values of her generation, Beverly “kept up with the times” – embracing modern technology, social media, current events and lingo – attributes which led to maintaining deep ongoing relationships with her grandchildren as they grew into adults. Also, despite the fact that she always carried with great poise and was somewhat reserved, she also had a wonderful sense of humor and was able to laugh easily at any “off-color” humor she encountered.
On October 27, 2025, at the age of 93, Beverly passed away peacefully. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Arlington National Cemetery on February 17, 2026.
Beverly is survived by her daughter Lisa and son-in-law Rusty; her grandchildren: Zachary Alexander and his wife Christine, and their sons William (8) and Theodore (4); Kathryn Alexis and her husband Mark, and their daughter Harper (5); and Jacob Allen and his fiancée Mara.
Beverly was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be profoundly missed.
