Mary Lewis was the best college roommate a girl could have.
She was the definition of "hard work pays off.''

Mary was a wonderful colleague to me and many others who worked to prevent malnutrition around the world.  She was a kind, thoughtful and generous colleague and modest about her considerable accomplishments.  I am very saddened by her passing.  She will be missed but her contributions to improving the lives of many will live on.

My deepest sympathy to Mary Lewis's family.  I was stunned to learn of her passing.  We were cousins, friends, and attended school together -- elementary school through high school graduation.  I saw her last fall when she was in Buchanan and I will hold that memory of her in my mind because she seemed to be in good health and was her usual cheerful self.  I will miss her.

My condolences to Mary's family & friends.  I often had occasion to meet with Mary back in the 80's when she worked on Food for Peace programs at FAS.  Mary was always a pleasure to deal with - she was friendly, approachable and a straight talker; always quick with a smile and a laugh - a lovely lady!  May she rest in peace & may her family find comfort in many warm memories shared.

Mary was our neighbor in Tauxemont for many years.  We were stunned to learn of her illness, because she looked the picture of health on her walks around the neighborhood.  I always enjoyed the pride she took in her grandsons.

Mary was a special cousin & person and I have fond memories of her growing up and visiting her family home in Buchanan, Va. She was a wonderful lady and will be greatly missed by her family.

Mary was such a lovely lady, and wonderful neighbor. Always with a ready smile and a kind word. She helped make Tauxemont a truly friendly place to live. Condolences to her family; she will be missed by many people.

I was deeply shocked and saddened to hear of Mary's passing.  She and I joined ERS within a few months of each other in the late 1960s.  I recall a bright young person, a hard worker and enthusiastic analyst.  I am almost certain that Barbara and I attended her wedding to Sam and recall Dean's birth.  I was in touch with her in October and was looking forward to lunch with her in March.  In our last correspondence she said nothing about illness and so her passing is doubly shocking. I extent my deepest sympathy to Mary's family, friends and colleagues.  Mary was one of the true giants of international food assistance in the U.S. government and around the world, and her years of hard work and determination affected the lives of millions of people in need.  But more important, she was a wonderful person and friend to so many of us around her.  We will all miss her and remember her warmth, her positive outlook, her humor and laughter, and her deep compassion.  Rest in Peace, Mary.

Aunt Mary was a very special person. She was like a mother for Anabela and had such a special bond with Raquel. She always remembered to bring some sweets without milk for her. We will always cherish the moments that she shared with us and all the uplifting words of encouragement she offered our family along the way.

To the family, relative and friends of Mary Chambliss I extend my sincere sympathy.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.  Mary was a wonderful person and employee of USDA for many years and it was my pleasure to work with her during her long career.  She will be missed.

Mary was one of my favorite people during my years with the US Department of Agriculture.  However, my memories of her go way back to the 1960s when I also worked for the Food for Peace Program in the US Agency for International Development and our paths crossed periodically.  She was a very dedicated federal employee, working to make programs function more effectively and efficiently.  And she never minced words.  You knew where you stood with her.  I wish her peace and I will always remember her with a smile.
