Mary Anne Hall of Alexandria, VA, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the age of 81 surrounded by her loved ones. She faced her final years of illness and cancer with remarkable courage, grace and a little bit of stubbornness. Mary Anne will be remembered for her gentle kindness, strength, unwavering faith and devotion to her family—a legacy of love and resilience that will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
Born on October 2, 1944, in Washington, DC, to Mary (Logue) Miller, Mary Anne spent her childhood in DC and attended Immaculate Conception High School. It was during her early school years that she met her future husband, Robert C. Hall, Sr.—his grandmother and her mother were friends and neighbors. Rob and Mary Anne’s friendship grew as children.
After high school, Mary Anne pursued studies at Catholic University with an interest in nursing. She began her career at the FCC, processing aviation communication licenses and earning recognition for her dedication. In April 1966, Mary Anne married Robert while he was serving in the Navy at Norfolk, VA. Her job transferred her to Norfolk allowing them to be together. Following Robert’s discharge, the couple settled in Alexandria, VA, where they raised their three children. Mary Anne devoted herself to being a stay-at-home mother throughout much of their childhood, nurturing her family with warmth and care.
As her children grew older, Mary Anne returned to the workforce as a receptionist at a local machine shop. She later joined Robert in building his CPA and tax preparation business, providing essential support behind the scenes. After Robert’s retirement, Mary Anne continued her professional journey as an office manager with another firm.
Mary Anne’s faith was central throughout her life. A devoted Catholic, she ensured her children were raised in the faith and taught CCD at St. Louis Catholic Church while they attended. Her gentle guidance left a lasting impression on her students — she patiently explained lessons and created a welcoming space for questions, helping them develop their own faith and sense of belonging.
Mary Anne enjoyed reading, cheering for the Washington Nationals, and expressing her creativity through crafts and crocheting. She lovingly made sweaters and blankets for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One cherished memory is the way she would quietly observe each child’s favorite color or interest, then surprise them with a handmade gift tailored just for them—a small but enduring symbol of her love.
She was a kind and loving soul, always present for her family in times of need. Mary Anne led by example, facing life’s challenges with quiet strength and seldom complaint. She earned the admiration of all who knew her for her thoughtfulness and resilience.
Mary Anne is survived by her husband of 59 1/2 years, Robert C. Hall, Sr. of Alexandria, VA; her children, Cheryl (David) Berard of Indian Head, MD, Jeanine (John) Jessup of Alexandria, VA, and Robert C. (Corey) Hall, Jr. of Palmyra, PA; grandchildren Jennifer (Dan) Kettner, Gabriel Hall, Joseph Hardee, Jonathan Sharpe, Lee Jessup, Joshua Hall, and Bethany Sharpe; and great-grandchildren Emalynn Kettner and Noah Kettner. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Logue Miller, and her brother, Charles Kent Miller.
Mary will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her family takes comfort in knowing she is at peace, free from pain, and forever surrounded by the love she gave so freely.
