Mary Kay Howell

Mary Kay "Katie" Howell of Alexandria, Virginia, formerly Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully in her home on February 27, 2025 at the age of 78. Survived by her daughter Bethany (Alan) Pultz, grandsons Mac and Robert Lee Pultz, her sister Barbara Truel, and also survived by nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband Jerry Howell, son William Taylor, brother and sister-in-law John and Arleen Kern, brother-in-law Robert Truel, and parents William and Velletta Kern.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and memories which will be cherished forever. Katie was a pillar in the community, known for the daycare she ran out of her home for decades and her work with St. Stephen's and St. Agnes' School as well as St. Agnes Catholic Church. Anyone who knew Katie also knew that her door would always be open for them.

Katie touched the lives of everyone around her with her warmth and compassion. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Agnes Church, 1914 N. Randolph Street, Arlington, VA, on Saturday, March 8 at 11 a.m. Visitation with the family will be at the Church at 10 a.m., preceding the Mass. Burial and rites of committal will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital whose mission is to help children battling cancer.
