Loving wife; mother and grandmother passed away on November 10, 2013. Born on August 3, 1925 to William and Mary Ramey in Springfield, IL; Maryelaine was one of four daughters and one son. Always a gifted student Maryelaine skipped two grades while progressing through school and graduated from high school at 16. The state college was unwilling to accept Maryelaine at such a young age so she enrolled in business college where she excelled at typing, shorthand and stenography. Maryelaine's exceptional skills made her a top selection by the U.S. State Department to go to Germany as a court reporter for the Nuremburg trials. However, on a brief stop in Frankfurt Maryelaine's skills and beauty were recognized by Capt. Vincent McManus and her orders were changed. Thus began their romance which led to almost 66 beautiful years together.
Maryelaine's greatest joys and source of pride were her husband Mac; four children, Mike, Becky, Kelly and John and their spouses; Bob, John and Mary and her four granddaughters Alice, Ashley, Miriam and Mary Katherine. Maryelaine was at her best when she was doing for others. She worked tirelessly as a Girl Scout Leader; a Red Cross Volunteer Gray Lady and as the head of Army Community Service at Fort Belvoir; but cooking, entertaining or making you feel better when you were sick is where Maryelaine really excelled. She was a care taker in every sense of the word.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful nurses, and aides at Paul Springs Retirement Community Assisted Living who cared so lovingly for Maryelaine while she was a resident and the compassionate support of Evercare Hospice. A Funeral Mass to celebrate Maryelaine's life will be held Saturday, November 16 at 11 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church, 2907 Popkins Lane, Alexandria, VA; reception to follow. There will be a viewing on Friday, November 15 at Demaine's Funeral Home, 520 So. Washington St., Alexandria, Va from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675
