Pat was an Eagle Scout and a graduate of Bishop Ireton High School. He attended the University of Virginia, and was an extremely active and valued member of the Alexandria, Virginia community. Before working as a realtor for Coldwell Banker and Long and Foster, Pat spent his early years as a bartender serving at many of the establishments in Old Town, Alexandria. He spent his free time as a member of the Ballyshaners, the Ancient Order of Hibernians the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and others performing charity work.
Pat touched the lives of many with his profound sense of humor, warmth, creativity, and gregarious, outgoing nature. A generous friend, Pat possessed an uncanny ability to connect to just about anyone. With his disarming wit, and an empathetic heart, Pat had a rare gift of building community wherever he found himself. Pat was also devoted to his family, bringing his charm and love to his nieces and nephews. Passionate about biking, Pat would share his self-built creations with family and friends and was always eager for a biking adventure around Old Town or DC. His love of sports made him a frequent attendee at Nats games with his buddies.
Pat was eager to share his love of his Irish-American heritage, and joined the Ballyshaners near its inception, and served as a former Officer of the organization. Pat was instrumental in organizing and supporting Irish-American Heritage Month in Alexandria, the Irish-American Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day Festival, and the annual Alexandria’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade, as well as a number of other local events. Pat was always the first person on King Street on parade day, supervising the set-up of the grandstand and organizing the volunteers’ breakfast.

Surviving are his loving four brothers: Thomas, Mark, John (Sharon), and Joseph (Paula) Garrity; a devoted sister, Mary “Macie” (John) Schlernitzauer; and many loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
