Richard Thomas Linnemann was born in Durham, N.C., September 18, 1943, the third child of Calvin and Adelia Linnemann. He grew up in Burlington, N.C., and graduated from Walter Williams High School. Richard continued his education at Duke University. He never lost his enjoyment of Duke Football and Basketball games. He signed up to go to the Vietnam War. He was awarded several awards: The National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge and he earned the Bronze Star for his bravery there. In a battle, Richard risked his life to refill the ammunition for fellow soldiers under intense gunfire. His Bravo B Company, 3/22 Infantry Group Regulars was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation 3rd Battalion, 22d Infantry for Extraordinary Heroism in Military Operations Against an Armed Enemy. Suoi Tre, Republic of Vietnam 21 March 1967. After his return from the War, Richard went to Law School and became a Labor Relations Lawyer at the U.S. Department of Immigration and Naturalization. He had a long career dealing with Labor issues in the U.S. Government. Richard passed away Thursday, July 15, 2021 at his home in Alexandria, Virginia. Richard was a wonderful Uncle, Brother, Son and Friend. He enjoyed spoiling his nieces and nephews, and always supported the family in any way he could. Beloved Brother of Adelia L. Sams, Calvin (Pat) Linnemann Jr., and Anne L. Terio. Adored Uncle of Marianne L. Elbertson, Christopher C.(Sang) Moore, Chris J.(Anne) Terio, Adelia (Bob) Quam, Will (Andrea) Sams, Mark (Kelly )Linnemann, Timothy Linnemann and Cathy Linnemann. Great-Uncle of Reed Anne Elbertson, Caroline Elbertson, AJ Terio, Sean Sams, Garrett Moore, Eliza Moore, Rumi Linnemann, Teo Linnemann, Lindsey (Andy) Elbertson Paulson, Dylan Quam, Catherine Quam, Megan Anne Quam and Nicholas Quam.
