

Dick lived a life defined by devotion to family, service to others, professional integrity, and a spirit of adventure. Above all, he was a devoted husband and family man. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Suzanne, who as the center of his life, and his two sons, Bradford James of New York and Chandler Kenneth of West Palm Beach, and Chandler’s wife, Denele. His sons were his greatest source of pride.
He is also survived by his grandsons, Jack, Charles, Wells and Ellis; his two sisters, Sara Anne Nuck of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, and Susan Bird Campbell and her husband, John Campbell of New York; as well as many loving nieces and nephews will remember his legacy of kindness and strength.
Dick proudly served in the United States Army as a Russian linguist stationed in Sinop, Turkey. After his military service, he built a distinguished career in consulting. He became a partner at Booz Allen and Hamilton early in his career and later retired as a partner at Grant Thornton. He was known for his steady leadership, sound judgment, and unwavering integrity.
Dick gave generously of his time and talents in service to others. He served on many charitable and civic boards over the years. He committed many hours to the Alexandria community.
Dick and Suzanne shared a lifelong love of travel. Together they visited seven continents, all the countries in South America, and much of Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East – a reflection of their shared curiosity and deep enjoyment of life together.
He will be greatly missed and forever held in the hearts of those who loved him. His love will continue to guide his family every day.
