IN THE CARE OF
Demaine Funeral Home
Rita Ann Rine passed peacefully at her home in Alexandria, Virginia on December 21, 2021. Rita was born in Rangoon, Burma in 1932. She moved to the United States in 1958 but she had already traveled extensively through her work for Pan Am, the Strand Hotel, and the U.S. Special Technical & Economic Mission to Burma. Her work instilled a love of travel and hospitality, and she cherished the memories of her trips across America, and to the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, India, Nepal, Mexico and Canada. Over the years she equally enjoyed hosting numerous out of town visitors and serving as their Washington, D.C. tour guide.
Cooking became a passion after her mother died, and she was happiest hosting friends and co-workers and sharing her Burmese dishes. She discovered tennis in her early 40s and it too became a passion for the next 40 years. She loved the sport and the friends she made on the court even more. When not playing tennis, Rita loved walking to stay active and healthy. She joined the Pentagon Pacesetters in the 90s and on weekends joined many of their 5K walks in Maryland, Virginia, and D.C. One of the highlights for her was a walk across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
Rita is survived by her children, Walter (Rhonda) and Nancy (Russ), two grandchildren, Matthew (Katie) and MJ, and two great grandchildren, Miles and Linn. A celebration of her life will be held at a future date.
