The legacy Ruth Harvey left the Ft. Hunt area and those who were privileged to have known her will never be forgotten. It lives on through her family and many friends she whose lives she touched. She was affectionate,benevolent,charitable,compassionate,good hearted,gracious thoughtful and more. She is missed.

I am sorry to hear of the loss of your Mother Ruth.  Her love of people and helpful attitude became evident in all her sons.  Your family helped my family in many ways in years past. Dear Tom and family- I am so sorry Mother has passed. I just heard about it today 1/14.My Mom (Monica Bode) and Dad (Eugene Bode) knew all the Harvey's very well. She always had a  smile on her face. There are so many great thoughts I have for Mrs. Harvey. Aside from being my first employer and working with her, the sons (Tom and Mike) and the multiple "adopted sons" (Ducie, Garth, Tommy S., too many names) of Hollin Hall back in the sixties, my most memorable thought is her compassion and absolute generosity she showed my mother and my family. 

She was instrumental in assisting my mother Mary and my Family with surviving, because of that generosity. 

For this, GOD BLESS MRS. HARVEY AND HER FAMILIES. SHE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED.

Mrs. Harvey was one of those very rare, genuinely good human beings. I cannot imagine her ever saying anything negative about anyone. She lifted me up and warmed my heart with her positive outlook many times, when I was waiting for an oil change to be finished. I KNOW she has gone to a better place. My heartfelt condolences.

Mrs. Harvey was always such a pleasure. Faith loved the large family dynamics and knowing all the family took such great care of their mother. Ruth always had a genuine smile and was a pleasure to do business with. We are especially sad for the family left behind. Rest in Peace Ruth.

I would always pay inside when Mrs. Harvey was working as cashier at the gas station. 

She would waive to me and smile through the window as I filled my tank with gas. Each time I went inside and paid her in person she would always give me a big warm hug. I could of talked to her for days if time allowed. ...so many wonderful  stories...

What a lady... such a deep gentle soul that loved life and lived it to the fullest. God bless Mrs. Harvey. :)

Our thoughts are with the entire Harvey family. The Gulf gas station is an icon to those of us lucky to have it be a part of our upbringing and community. Mrs. Harvey will certainly be leaving a legacy which had her kind thumbprint on it.

Very sorry to hear about the passing of Mrs. Harvey. She was very popular in the Holin Hall community and ran a successful gas station for many, many years. Giving many boys the chance for their first jobs while learning wonderful customer service. She will be missed by all! She knew everyone, even all of her grandchildren friends. Dear Harvey Clan. I loved your mom so much for her kindness and love, her sparkly blue eyes, and the interest she showered on our girls. My heart was so touched when I saw her modest bedroom in the home where she raised those rowdy boys. That bedroom with a cross and picture of Christ, the simplicity of bedding and furniture all said "selfless". I do believe her life was one of answered prayers. For all of us who gather to honor her life there will be matching crowds on the other side led by a husband and two sons with those gorgeous Harvey eyes.

Mrs. Harvey was always so gracious whenever she saw my husband and myself.  I graduated from Fort Hunt High School with Butch. My brother, Ducie, worked for the gas station.  I would see Mrs. Harvey sitting in the front pew at St. Louis Catholic Church before 5:30 p.m. Mass saying her rosary. We will miss seeing her smiling face.

You set the standard very high for all to follow.  You were one of the kindest human beings I have ever known.  You will be missed but will live on in so many people's hearts forever.  RIP Mrs. Harvey, part of your family has been waiting patiently for you. ❤

Quitters never win and winners never quit. Ruth Harvey was a winner all her life. First, she raised a large family of winners. Then, during her 80th decade, she was a familiar figure behind the cash register of the family service station on Fort Hunt Road. We salute her sustained performance.

everyday, her smile and kindness will always be remembered .

I'll always remember "Mom's" smiling face in the window of the service center at 5:30 in the morning as I passed by on my way to the Beltway, sometimes stopping for gas and a chat. Ruth was a remarkable woman who never had a bad word to say about anyone and who always brought a ray of sunshine to the day. I think of her often, especially when I pass the local, family owned Gulf station in Newtown, PA.
