After graduating from St. Agnes Episcopal School for Girls, she attended Cornell University and was a member of Tri-Delta sorority. She graduated in 1952.
She met Lt. James Macklin on Governors Island, NY and they were married on March 28, 1953. They had four children, ten grandchildren, and twenty-one great grandchildren.
In 2001, they moved into The Fairfax. Jim passed away in 2015 and Sally continued to live there as a widow. She enjoyed playing bridge games, volunteering at the Gift Shop, playing tennis, and organizing sorority luncheons.
In 2020, Sally suddenly went blind with a rare blood disease, limiting her activities and changing her life.
She will be buried with Jim at Arlington National Cemetery at a date later to be determined.
