

Born on June 24, 1932, in Alexandria, VA, Tom lived a remarkable, long life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and deeply loved with an adventurous spirit. An astute businessman as a self-employed General Contractor whose work ethic and perseverance served as an example to those around him.
Through his dedication and entrepreneurial spirit, he earned the respect of colleagues, clients and friends alike.
Tom was an accomplished professional duckpin bowler and enjoyed the camaraderie and competition the sport brought into his life.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Tom's greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband to Betty A. Gailliot with whom he shared 75 years of love, partnership and cherished memories. Together they built a family that became the center of his world.
He is survived by his loving children: Mary Jo Pohlig, Teresa M. Westerman, Thomas Henry Gailliot, Jr. Susie Thompson, Patty Hart and Alicia Gailliot.
He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Katie R. Gilliam
Tom was also a proud grandfather to 16 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved grandson Christopher B. Gailliot.
Tom loved traveling the world and embraced opportunities to experience new places and cultures. Whether at home with family, pursuing his interests, or traveling abroad, he approached life with enthusiasm and appreciation for the blessings he had been given.
Tom lived life devoted to his family, and was a man who was deeply loved. While his presence will be profoundly missed, his memory will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the physicians, nurses and caregivers who provided compassionate care during Tom's final days. We take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace and reunited with loved ones who have gone before him.
Visitation will be held at Demaine Funeral Homes. Inc., 520 S. Washington St., Alexandria, VA 22314, US, on June 10, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A Funeral Service will take place at Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church, 8710 Mount Vernon Hwy, Alexandria, VA 22309, US, on June 11, 2026, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am.
A Committal Service will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, 1000 S Royal St, Alexandria, VA 22314, US, on June 11, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm.
