Vickie Louise Poole Hauser, beloved wife, mother, Uma (grandmother) and friend to all, passed away peacefully January 14, 2025 at the age of 81. She will be remembered for her beauty, quick wit, unwavering spirit, and fierce loyalty.
Though her soul has departed this Earth, her memory lives on in her children, who carry her sense of humor and playful spirit. Her legacy of love and joyful mischief will continue through her grandchildren, who will undoubtedly embrace her cherished tradition of spoiling the next generation rotten.
Mom, you were a force of nature and a whirlwind of love. You taught us the importance of family, quiet strength, the joy of laughter, and the art of sarcasm. You also taught us that it's okay to be a little bit naughty, as long as you don't get caught.
We will miss your delicious holiday meals, your endless patience, and your ability to find humor in any situation. But most of all, we will miss your unwavering love and support.
Vickie was born in San Diego, CA at the North Island Family Hospital on October 7, 1943, to John Preston Poole (USN) and Helen Louise Poole (George). Vickie spent her early years with her younger brother George (wife Cora) in San Angelo, Texas, near her grandparents Mamie (Garner) and Hugh George and Ruby Poole (Calloway) of Waxahachie, Texas. In San Angelo, she met, and later married Charles W. Waring. Charlie joined the US Navy, and Vickie assumed the role of a military wife traveling across the USA and to Hawaii. They had two daughters, Debbie Evans (husband Curt) and Kathy Gaetjen (husband Jeff).
Military orders brought them from Hawaii to Alexandria, Virginia in the early 1970s. Vickie sold real estate for Routh Robbins and later worked as a paralegal for Gannon, Cottrell, and Ward Law Firm. She would tell stories of those "raucous" Redskin players from the 70s and how those attorneys earned every bit of their money covering for their shenanigans.
After Vickie’s divorce, she met and married Col. Elmer (Fred) Hauser (USAF) with whom she spent 25 years before his passing in 2002. She was a stepmother to his three grown children: Jill Sierakowski (husband Bob), Rick Hauser (Matthew Johnston), and Bob Hauser (wife Kedra). Her family was her focus. She planned fabulous holiday celebrations and summer trips to Hilton Head Island for almost 40 years. HIton Head became everyone's favorite vacation, especially for the grandchildren.
Speaking of grandchildren, she had many and she loved them dearly. Her grandchildren include Max Nail, Grace O'Donnell (PFC Juaquan Mack), Ruby O'Donnell, Charlotte Evans, Eva Evans, Chase Evans, Rick Steenrod (and his wife Susan), Scott Steenrod (and his wife Emily), Kristin O'Donnell, Kevin O'Donnell (and his wife Megan), Erin Sheridan (and her husband JB), Emily Gaetjen (and her husband Dustin), Anna Gaetjen, Abby Gaetjen, Hanley Hauser, Bailey Hauser, and Cooper Hauser. Her bounty of loved ones didn't end there. She had her 2 nieces and numerous great-grandchildren.
Vickie also enjoyed a robust social life. When not spending time with her family, she was on the golf course with her many Ft. Belvoir Golf Association friends, acting as the Chairperson for the National Military Dependant’s Golf Tournament at Ft. Belvoir, attending concerts, the theater performances, and trying her luck at the casinos! She recently won over $6000 just killing time! We invite you to raise a glass in Vickie's honor and celebrate the remarkable woman she was. As we remember her, we echo the words of her then 3 year old granddaughter Grace, "I LOVE YOU, UMA!..... GOODBYE!"
“Crank it loud, hold it down ‘til I get there and when I do, I hope you got some new stories to tell. ‘Til then, give Heaven some hell.” A favorite song of hers by Hardy. IYKYK- “Queen”
Rest in peace, Mom. We love you more than any words can say.
Vickie will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery next year. A "Celebration of Life" will be held at a sooner date. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Sue and Lee Nelson, Dad and Eugenia Van De Graff for their unwavering support during this emotional time. With love, The Waring and Hauser Families
