Chip was a life-long architecture and preservation enthusiast with his own architecture firm in Old Town. Chip grew up locally on Church Street at the southern end of Old Town. He graduated from the University of Kentucky, and came back to practice locally. He renovated his first house on Commerce Street starting in 1979. He was first appointed to the BAR in 2010, and became the Vice-Chairman during his second term. He was recently re-appointed to the BAR by City Council in a unanimous vote.
Chip was pre-deceased by his mother Harriet Carlin, and by his brother Mark. Chip is survived by his son, Jack Carlin Harrell, as well as aunts, uncles and cousins in Kentucky and Texas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 20 at Noon at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Old Town. There will be a reception at the St. Mary’s Lyceum immediately following Mass.
