

Gene was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Edna and Menzel Poggenburg on April 11th, 1940. He went to school at Marquette University. Gene had three children (Deborah, Timothy, and Jeffrey). He worked as an Engineer for Boeing and G.E.
He was a veteran of the US Army and served in the Vietnam War. He served as Captain in the Corps of Engineers with the 46th Engineering Battalion. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his bravery and ingenuity during his service in Vietnam.
He was involved in Prevention of Blindness Society and Look Again Resale Shop, a thrift store in Alexandria VA.
Gene is preceded in death by his son, Timothy and his wife, Florence Joseph.
Gene is survived by his children, Jeffrey, Deborah, granddaughters Laura, Amanda, Kristina and Brittany, and great grandchildren Easton, Zander, Grayson, Rowan, Kane, Rhys and Alice.
A Memorial Gathering will take place on Friday February 21st, 2025, from 6-8pm at Demaine Funeral Home, located at 520 S. Washington St, Alexandria, VA 22314.
Memorials may be given to the Prevention of Blindness Society.
