Richard was born on October 11, 1947. He graduated from Mount Carmel High School and attended Wabash Valley College. During the Viet Nam War, Richard joined the U.S. Army and served three years, spending one year in Saigon, Viet Nam.
Richard was an avid golfer, spending hours at the golf course where he met many good friends through the years. Richard went to Coal Mining School, but when a job opened at Mt. Carmel Public Utility Company, he went to work there in the “old plant” on March 8, 1971. He worked his way up through the ranks and became Gas Supervisor on March 8, 1991. He always felt so blessed by God to have such a good job and loved the guys he worked with. He retired from MCPU in 2009. He immensely enjoyed his retirement, always thanking God for being able to retire while he was able to enjoy it.
Richard met and started dating Sheila Moore in the summer of 1966. When he got orders to go to Viet Nam, they were married on July 7, 1968. They have been married almost 46 wonderful years.
After being told they would never have children, Sheila and Richard began the process of trying to adopt. In His amazing mercy, God healed Sheila and they were so very blessed with the birth of twin boys, Justin Alan and Jared Scott in 1975. Two years later they were awesomely blessed by a baby girl, Jill Renae. Richard was so proud of his children and loved them beyond measure. They brought him so much joy all of his life.
Richard is survived by his wife, Sheila Moore Strockbine who loved him deeply, his children, Justin (Melissa) Strockbine, Jared (Nicki) Strockbine, and Jill (Brandon) Kight. He is also survived by his mother,
