

After graduating from Port Chester High School he began a distinguished 20-year career in the United States Navy, ultimately achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3 (CWO3). His service began aboard the U.S.S. Meyerkord and later aboard the U.S.S. Nimitz, one of the largest and most celebrated warships in the world. During the final years of his naval career, Alan earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Central Florida—an accomplishment he was deeply proud of.
After retiring from the Navy in 1987, Alan began a successful 27-year career in banking with Truist/SunTrust Bank, where he was admired for his dedication, integrity, and professionalism.
On December 8, 1971, Alan married the love of his life, Mildred (Thomas) Blackburn with whom he shared a devoted and joyful partnership for more than five decades. Together they built a strong and loving family. After their retirement they loved to travel on cruises around the world.
Alan was a member of the Second Harvest Food Bank and a proud supporter of UCF Athletics and was a longtime season ticket holder. He was a passionate fan of all UCF sports and NY Giants football, he enjoyed basketball, and had a lifelong love for golf.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mildred Blackburn; his children, Alan Douglas “Doug” Blackburn Jr. and Jeanine Annette Floyd (Blackburn); daughter-in-law, Cathryn Mae Cavanaugh; son-in-law, Omar Floyd; his beloved grandchildren, Ashley Elizabeth Dunston, Jazmine Ashley Foster, and Jozelyn Foster; brother, Eric Blackburn; and nieces and nephew, Pam Blackburn, Erica Blackburn, and David Blackburn.
Alan’s dedication, generosity, and unwavering love for his family will always be remembered.
Services will be held at Baldwin Fairchild West Altamonte Chapel (90 Weathersfield Ave, Altamonte Springs, FL 32714) on Sunday, December 7, 2025. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 1:00 pm followed by a celebration of life service at 2:00 pm.
