Alice Richard Morton was born on July 7, 1939 in East Point, Florida to William Green Richard and Lena Hartley Richard. The last of 19 children, Alice was the only one to graduate from high school. Alice graduated from South Broward High School in 1958, where she was voted as their homecoming queen. Upon graduation, Alice moved to Dade County, Florida to live near her beloved sister Lena May. Alice was hired as a legal secretary by lawyer Richard Morton. His 4 younger brothers were all smitten by his new secretary, but it was his youngest brother, Rodney Kemp Morton, who won her heart. Rodney and Alice were married on November 25, 1959.

Alice’s beautiful life will be forever cherished in the lives of her 3 children and their spouses: Gina Morton Dry, Rodney Lance Morton (Helena) and Leif Kemp Morton (Valerie). She adored and was adored by her 5 grandchildren: Lindsey Dry Naegeli, David Dry, Brittney Dry Clark, Leif Kyle Morton and Emily Morton Bacia. Alice also leaves behind 5 great grandchildren. Alice was a deeply devoted mother to her 3 children. She demonstrated this devotion in a nurturing, and at times, fiercely protective manner. She made their home a safe place, filled with love, laughter and delicious home cooking. For her children, Alice was their biggest champion and their loudest cheerleader. Alice and Rod were married over 60 years. They shared a love of travel, visiting such places as Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, Jamaica, England, Germany, Switzerland, Taiwan and Hong Kong, just to name a few. They enjoyed church fellowship, and this fellowship lead to many lifelong friendships. They enjoyed family camping and road trips. They were a united team and enjoyed doing almost everything together. Alice decided to stay at home to raise her children beginning in 1961. At the age of 46, Alice once again entered the workforce. She worked for the Florida Tomato Committee for 15 years, until her retirement. Alice was the assistant for the marketing director. One of her many responsibilities was handling everything needed for their trade shows. She hired chefs, purchased items needed by the chefs, prepared and created their brochures and display tables. At her retirement, Alice received commendations from both the Florida Department of Agriculture and the Unites States Department of Agriculture.

Alice was a strong woman, who believed a woman could do anything she sets her mind to do. She instilled this mindset in her daughter and granddaughters, giving them the courage to achieve their goals, no matter how lofty.

Alice was truly a woman of quiet wisdom. Alice was grace personified.
