He was born in Itagui, Colombia on May 13, 1948. He studied Textile Engineering before moving to the United States in 1980 where he would eventually meet his love, Vivian, while enjoying his favorite pastime, dancing after the ‘94 World Cup. They married in October of 1997.
Arnoldo was a joyfully energetic husband, father, and grandfather who was always ready to jump in and help or have a great deal of fun! His passion was supporting his beloved Colombia and Athletico Nacional. If he couldn’t watch, he always had his phone tuned in to the radio to listen no matter where he was. His nickname was “Superboy” because he would outdance everyone on the dancefloor until the early morning.
Most importantly, he frequently said his favorite moments of his life were when his grandchildren were born and being there for every milestone, activity, soccer game, concert, and event as they grew up.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian Velasquez-Vargas, his son, Diego Vargas, daughter-in-law, Dory Vargas, grandson, Preston Vargas, and his granddaughter, Sydney Vargas. He is also survived by his siblings, Honorio, Fabiola, Licinia, Beatriz, and Dario, his Aunt Teresita and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends that loved him very much.
Funeral arrangements begin at St. Mary Magdalen at 861 Maitland Ave, Altamonte Springs 32701 on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 11:00 AM. A festive celebration of his life with a reception will be held immediately afterwards at the Baldwin Fairchild Chapel at 994 E Altamonte Drive, Altamonte Springs, FL 32701.
