Aurora Rosa Bono, née Zunino, 93, was born November 3, 1929, in Ventimiglia, Italy, and passed away March 3, 2023, in Clermont, Florida. Aurora arrived in the U.S. at age 17 with her two younger brothers and settled in with her aunt and uncle in Brooklyn, New York, later moving to Long Island where she made her career as a seamstress in the ladies’ fashion industry. Aurora married her husband Victor in 1957, and they enjoyed 39 years together. In 1970 she proudly achieved her greatest dream of becoming an American citizen. She and Victor moved to Florida in the late 1970s, first to St. Petersburg and later to Casselberry. She transitioned to assisted living in December 2018.
Aurora was an avid opera fan, having attended operatic performances as a young child in Italy. She herself had a beautiful singing voice and, even though shy about it, would often delight others with her opera singing, even during her final years. She also loved to cook, sew and garden, and acted as loving caregiver to anyone who needed her throughout her life. She was an animal lover, most especially of cats, and had an amazing collection of realistic-looking toy cats.
Aurora was preceded in death by her husband Victor and brothers Pietro and Giacomo. She is survived by nephews Peter Zunino, Claudio Zunino and Jack Zunino, nieces Mary Doskoez and Arlene Zunino, sister-in-law Julianne Zunino, two grandnieces and three grandnephews.
Aurora is interred at All Faiths Memorial Park in Casselberry with her beloved husband Victor.
